Little Voice

November 3, 2014

A couple of weeks ago, we were out and about somewhere, yelling to the heavens to hear our echoes.

Addie says “MOM!!!! Can you hear my Little Voice??” She had discovered her echo and named it. It was adorable and I wanted it to last forever. We can just call it Little Voice until she’s 40, right.

So then, the other day, we were out in our woods – sidebar: we have a logging/forest management company out there clear cutting a pretty massive space to allow sunlight to actually reach our house and keep the property significantly warmer /endsidebar – checking out the newly cleared space, we were yelling and listening to our Little Voices.

I said “Addie, do you hear your Little Voice??”

And she says… with a slight air of condescension:

“Mom. It’s called an Echo.”

In other news, my mom has been here visiting for 2 weeks and she leaves tomorrow. Wahhhhh – I’ve really enjoyed her stay and I don’t want her to go 😦

In other baby-related news, Elsie tried out some avocado for the first time yesterday. She was mostly smashing and wiping it across her little table – actually I’m not sure any of it was actually consumed. But it was fun!

We Halloweened all week and that was great. Elsie was Skeloise, Addie was some sort of dark Fairy Queen, and I was her fairy friend. My mom wore a masquerade mask and Addie said she was a Halloween Stick.

Lastly, Elsie took her first ride in the fancy grocery cart car thing. Like a real kid. Addie was beside herself with joy.

It looks good right? She made me “a butterfly”

I made her spritely again.

Blog Revivalism

October 26, 2014

I’ve made several attempts at reviving blogs. Turns out I’m just bad at it.

But, now that I’m working regularly, I’m going to try to just start off my work days with a little blog post. Mostly to keep track of what my girls are up to.

Last blog post here, there was one kid. Now there are two. Eloise is 5 months old and SUPER RAD.

Here’s her latest:

Sitting herself up from lying on her belly.

Rolling all over the place

Almost crawling.

She’s suddenly ticklish and cackles when I blow on her belly.

Also, she’s the cutest thing ever. And she loooooves her sister.

Which brings me to Addie. She’s 3 now and basically the sweetest kid ever. Lately she:

Cleans house with out being asked (sweeps the floor, wipes the counter, throws garbage away, folds laundry). She loves being a big sister – she helps with diapers, helps Elsie play and sit up and keeps small toys and things away from her. She’s learning the alphabet and numbers, she’s starting to write and draw things that are recognizable. She loves water slides and swimming. She decided to be a Fairy Queen for Halloween and wore a black, gothy fairy dress with black wings and I did her make up: smokey eyes with some designs across her forehead, and she carried a pinwheel as her magic wand.

I’m sick right now with a sinus infection (gross), and she’s been making sure I have a blanket, food, tea, hugs, asking if her efforts are helping me to feel better. ❤ ❤ ❤ She’s super great.

Here’s to more blogging and less facebooking.

NW Citrus

December 12, 2012

The PNW doesn’t really do citrus. And we’ve been on a local foods bender. We have pretty much bought all of our food locally this year with very few exceptions. Salt. Coffee. Coconut oil/flour. We did a ton of food preserving as well. Products not obtained locally were bought directly from the producers as often as possible. Cheese. Maple syrup. Olives.

We bought some olive oil from a family farm in Nor Cal. Chaffin Family Farm. They also do satsumas. I bought a box and they shipped it up. That’s the best we are going to do with citrus sourcing. They are SO GOOD. Pumped.

I’m back. Again.

December 5, 2012

I tried to do the Tumblr thing. Hated it. I’m going to make an effort to post on here with some sort of frequency.

In a nutshell:

We moved to Seattle a year ago. It’s awesome. Jared’s job has him traveling the world, and the deal is that when he’s gone I can either go visit family or friends, or have people come here to visit. Two weeks with a toddler, alone, is exhausting.

I’m still working from home. Business is good! I feel very fortunate.

Addie is amazing. I think my desire to post more often sprung out of her crazy development spurt in the last 2 weeks. She climbed a ladder at the children’s museum and put herself down a slide yesterday. Today she said “Please”.

The vocab so far: uh oh. wow. no. please. hi. bye bye. muah (blows kisses). mama.

She is the most awesome and I am crazy crazy in love with her.

More to come.

Aerosmith <3 Co-sleeping

September 3, 2011

I was lying awake in the middle of night staring at my sweet, smiling, sleeping babe thinking “I don’t want to close my eyes, I don’t want to miss anything.”

Then, “Damn, that would make a great song.”

Then… “Wait, I think it is a song.”

Looks to me like Aerosmith wrote a sweet, sweet song about mamas co-sleeping with their sweet, sweet babies.

“I could stay awake just to hear you breathing
Watch you smile while you are sleeping
Far away and dreaming
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender
I could stay lost in this moment forever
Well, every moment spent with you
Is a moment I treasure

I don’t wanna close my eyes
I don’t wanna fall asleep
‘Cause I’d miss you, babe
And I don’t wanna miss a thing
‘Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream will never do
I’d still miss you, babe
And I don’t wanna miss a thing

Lying close to you
Feeling your heart beating
And I’m wondering what you’re dreaming
Wondering if it’s me you’re seeing
Then I kiss your eyes and thank God we’re together
And I just wanna stay with you
In this moment forever, forever and ever

I don’t wanna close my eyes
I don’t wanna fall asleep
‘Cause I’d miss you, babe
And I don’t wanna miss a thing
‘Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream will never do
I’d still miss you, babe
And I don’t wanna miss a thing”

Tears. Who knew Aerosmith would sock one to me one day. *sniff*

Farm Baby Blog

August 24, 2011

I started a blog in November to act as a pregnancy/parenthood journal. I posted in it twice while I was 5 weeks pregnant, then forgot about it.  I revived it last night and will be posting all things Adeline on that blog instead of infecting this blog with the baby virus.

Should you care to read about Addie’s adventures and milestones, I’ll be posting obsessively here:

Farm Baby

Since I’m 6 weeks behind now, I spent the evening starting from the beginning and catching up. I’m about half way there.

Oh and,

August 22, 2011

She keeps farting really loud and it cracks me up.
