July 24, 2010

Yeah, I got stung  by some form of beelike or waspesque character today and it smarted.

I was readying some things to build a small lean-to off the current small goat house (previously a kid’s play structure, now housing the two weaned babies).

I’m okay, though, and the paste of baking soda and water I applied seemed to have mellowed the irritation a little.  The good news is that apparently I’m not allergic.

As soon as this lean-to is done (should be finished tomorrow), the small goats will reside there and their current space (roughly 8×9′ and 6′ tall) will begin its transformation to our new, proper chicken coop!  This new space will allow us to have many more chickens, some for eggs and some to eventually sell for meat.  We’re planning to attend an upcoming course at Kookoolan Farms ( to learn about butchering and they also have a class coming up on hard cheeses!  Looks rad and they seem to be doing some very admirable things.  The next breed of choice seems to be the Delaware, for their dual purpose use and heritage status.

Off to get ready for fishing (word is the local pond has just been stocked).
