Flock of Poultry

July 12, 2010

I found a Mottled Java rooster on craigslist! He was listed for $20, only to a home with other javas, and I emailed the woman who had him and explained that we have java hens, and are interested in breeding them, etc. She was really excited and said she’d love to just give him to us, and asked that when we have some chicks that we give her a couple – to which I happily agreed.

The girls are still little tinies:

Heritage to the bone

The little yellow ones with black backs are the Mottled Javas, somehow they’ll grow up to look like this:

The black ones are the Cuckoo Marans, which will grow up to look like…Mottled Javas:

The dark birdie in the foreground is a Narrangansett (say: nar-RAN-gan-set) Turkey hen, there are 3 of them in there. Hopefully one is a boy 🙂 They’re a heritage breed turkey. And they look like this as adults:

Badass, no?

The lighter turkey babe in there is another Bourbon Red turkey hen-let. And now, the obligatory adult photo:

Enjoy your poultry lesson for the day?

I sure did. Bye bye now.

    Total poultry porn, LOL.

I haven’t had a chance to tell you how much I love this blog – and your Greytalk posts!

Your stories and photos are one more reason among many that make me want to pack up everything and move to PDX like, today.
